Anguilla vacation rentals are found northerly of the Leeward Islands in the Eastern Caribbean and lies between the Atlantic Ocean and the Caribbean Sea. It is only five miles north of St. Martin and one hundred and fifty miles east of Puerto Rico. A dry limestone island it is only approximately 16 miles long and around 3 miles across at its widest point. A flat island, its highest spot is Crocus Hill that is 213 feet above sea level.

The Wallbalke Internal Airport is located just five miles from the capital of Anguilla, The Valley. Villas Caribe’s clients are met at the airport upon arrival, assisted with securing their rental vehicles and escorted to the villa.

We highly recommend that clients rent a vehicle for their stay on Anguilla.
Renting a car on Anguilla requires a valid driver’s license as well as a temporary local Anguilla license that may be purchased for US $20 from the car rental agency. The major car rental companies such as Avis and Budget are located near the airport on Anguilla.
Rates for rental cars on Anguilla range from US $45-$60 per day not including insurance.

Anguilla Climate:
Warm & sunny with temperatures between 75 F and 90 F year round. During the winter, the nights are slightly cooler and so it might be a good idea to bring a cotton sweater.

Reservations made within 60 days prior to arrival during the winter season and 45 days prior to arrival during the summer/low season must be paid in full.
Anguilla Dress:
Due to the islands conservative British heritage, there is a dress code of conservative clothing. Light cotton dresses and light jackets and ties for formal wear and typical tropical wear during the day.
Anguilla Driving:
Anguilla driving is on the left, British style. A valid driver’s licenses from your own country as well as a local driving permit are required (and available from the car rental companies at a cost of $20.00). Please be sure to watch out for the goats that roam the streets freely on Anguilla.
Anguilla Villa Documents for Arrival:
Every person entering Anguilla should be in possession of a valid passport and a valid return ticket. A visitor who is a citizen of the United States of America or Canada may be admitted without a passport for a period not exceeding three (3) months. However, that person will be required to produce proof of nationality, by means of an original birth certificate with a raised seal and photo identification.
Electricity:
The electricity on Anguilla is 110 volts/60 cycles-same as in the U.S.
No adapters necessary for visitors from North America but European visitors will require one.

Anguilla is a British Dependent Territory.
The island of Anguilla has few natural resources, so the economy on Anguilla is heavily dependent upon tourism, off-shore banking and lobster fishing.
Anguilla Golf:
Anguilla has no golf courses as yet. The Anguilla government, however, has reached an agreement providing for the construction of a $250 million golfing facility on the island with a scheduled completion of sometime in ‘2005. A world-class 18-hole championship course is in the works for Anguilla. In the interim, there is a Pitch and Putt Course in Sandy Ground on Well Road-a nine-hole course.
Anguilla Grocery Shopping:
Visitors will find the supermarkets in Anguilla are well stocked and offering a staggering array of exotic and distinguished speciality foods for the good life. There are large grocery stores on Anguilla in The Valley and smaller convenience stores located all over the island, some are open until 9:00 PM and some are even open on Sunday.
Anguilla History:
Archeological evidence indicates that Anguilla was once inhabited by the Arawak Indians who named the island of Anguilla “Malliouhana”.
Except for a brief period of independence in the 1960’s, Anguilla has remained a British Colony.
Columbus sighted Anguilla in 1493 and names it for its eel like shape-Anguilla means “eel” in Spanish. Europeans changed the island’s name to Anguilla for its long eel shape.
In 1650, Anguilla became a British Crown Colony and was colonized by English settlers who started corn and tobacco plantations. The soil on Anguilla, however, was thin and rainfall scant making the conditions for a plantation economy unfavorable. Therefore, the plantations on Anguilla were small and could not employ many slaves. Slavery on Anguilla was officially abolished in 1834.
Anguilla was governed as part of St. Kitts, Nevis, Anguilla from the early 18th Century.
Anguilla became a separate dependency with its own internal self-government following a British intervention to end two years of rebellion. This was formalized with the Anguilla Act of 1980. Today, Anguilla is a dependency of the United Kingdom.

Horseback riding is available on Anguilla and there are plenty of trails as well as riding through the surf on deserted beaches.

Anguilla Local Hazards:
Black Sea Urchins
Manchineel Trees-beware of the little green apples that fall from this tree, as they are poisonous to eat and toxic to touch. Do not even seek shelter under one of these trees during a rain, as you will get
blisters.
Anguilla Location:
Anguilla is the most northerly of the Leeward Islands, lying at 18-degree latitude and 10 minutes north and 63 degrees longitude west.
Anguilla Marriage & Weddings:
Getting married on Anguilla requires a special license that takes approximately two working days to process. Couples must present proof of citizenship such as passport or original birth certificate accompanied by a photo ID. Additionally, please note that two witnesses are required for weddings on Anguilla. Catholics must, also, submit Confirmation papers, Baptismal certificate, Freedom to Marry papers, Pre-Cana course and provide at least 3-6 months advance notice. It is recommended that couples arrive on Anguilla several days before the intended ceremony date to arrange the paperwork.
Documents required to apply for a marriage license are the same as the documents needed for entry to Anguilla. These documents include: proof of citizenship such as a valid passport or birth certificate and driver's license with photo. In the event that one or both of the "intended" are re-marrying, proof of divorce or death certificate is required for Anguilla.
If one partner resides in Anguilla for at least fifteen days before the date of marriage, the cost of the license is US$40. If the stay is shorter, then the cost of the license is $284 stamp duty. Two witnesses are required.

Anguilla Nightlife:
Nightlife on Anguilla is low-key and centers mainly on some form of live entertainment at the major hotels as well as some local spots/bars where locals and tourists mix and enjoy live music.
A calypso combo plays several nights each week at the Cinnamon Reef Beach Club on Anguilla and the Mariners on Anguilla will often have B.B.Q.’s and live entertainment. Johnno’s beach bar on Anguilla offers a live music and alfresco dining several nights per week.
